Hi, welcome to the North East Motor Cycle Action Group’s  web page. All our contact details are on the “Contacts Us” page or the “Local Groups Info” pages so if you want to contact one of us I’d start there.

OK, who is MAG? Well I look at it this way.

What Does MAG Do?

Well here in the North East in the last year we started pushing to have traffic calming measures that had been introduced to slow cars and vans but were lethal for motorcyclists removed from the highway.   Our view is simply that authorities can’t make the road safer for one group if at the same time they make it less safe for another group of road users. After all, is your life worth less than somebody else’s? Check out the press links in the News section.

MAG is the gatekeeper of the soul of motorcycling. If it’s fun it’s gonna be a bit dangerous and some miserable git will want it banned. MAG is here for the people who want fun in life, and to fight the people that don’t want you to have any fun.

In two of our North East major cities we’ve had bike parking improved to make parking for two wheelers easier and in one city (can’t say too much at the moment) we’re actively working with the authority to have to amount and type of bike parking substantially improved and increased.   You’ll hear more about this later. Watch this space.

You probably ride through the Tyne Tunnel on your bike? You didn’t pay; well you can thank MAG for the Free of Charge for bikes deal struck with the operators.

In Durham and Newcastle we’ve actively campaigned and won the battle to allow access to bus lanes for bikes. So when you’re cruising along using that bus lane passing all the cars in the rush hour, thank MAG.

Then there are all the rallies that are organised to support MAG  like Stormin’ the Castle, The Yorkshire Pudding, Into the Valley; the smaller events like The Tan Hill, Heart of England, Blackpool Party, Easter Egg runs, fundraisers and dozens and dozens of other events over the year.

Nationally We Have …

• Defeated proposals on mandatory leg protectors

• Defeated mandatory power restrictions

• Defeated compulsory daytime running lights

• Defeated ‘anti tampering’ on bikes over 125cc ensuring the survival of owner tuning

• Defeated continuous taxation proposals that would have required every bike to own to be taxed even if not on the road

• Gained access to bus lanes in Bristol, Reading, Hull and now many major routes in London

• Got European construction regulations amended to inhibit diesel spillages.

The Motorcycle Action Group campaigns to protect and promote the interests and rights of all riders, from learner to advanced.

MAG membership is drawn from across the whole spectrum of motorcycling. We celebrate biking and the freedoms and independence it provides. There are around 70,000 members nationwide so you’re not alone.

MAG is the representative voice of riders in Local and National government, because we are not aligned to ANY political party or ideology our independence makes it possible for politicians and officials to work with us.

MAG is the Rider’s voice in Westminster and Brussels.

Any legislation that threatens the fun freedom and accessibility of motorcycles will be challenged by MAG.

If you want to ride a powered vehicle that happens to have two wheels in our health and safety obsessed nation you need an articulate and well informed lobby to support you and your interests. MAG is that lobby.
